The holiday season is soon approaching with a twist of irony. The stores that used to echo Merry Christmas have replaced it with, "Happy Holidays." Don't you think it would be better if we knew which holiday it was?

Are we celebrating, as we used to, the birth of Jesus or merely the arrival of Santa Claus? As for the idea of gift giving, do we really understand why we are giving these gifts? Is it purely a tradition?

There must be a reason behind it. More than 2000 years ago, it was foretold that a Messiah would come to Bethlehem. He would someday rule the world. Wise men came from afar to acknowledge him and they brought gifts to the Christ child.

This generation is being lulled into passiveness. We now have a holiday tree. Jesus is pawned off as a myth.

The irony of it all is that Santa Claus is a myth and we still recognize him as the real reason for the season. Caroling used to ring out in classrooms. Now carols in school are forbidden.

The word of God says "choose you this day whom you will serve." Will it be Christ or Santa, Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman?

Jesus is the real reason for the season. Let's acknowledge that this is the day Christ was born. Put Christ back in Christmas.
