The heat and humidity is on because, after all, it's midsummer! The season's bounty of
succulent, fresh vegetables and fruits bring light and healthy meals. Turn off the oven,
stove and microwave, and make garden-fresh delicious summer salads that are
loaded with nutrients, fiber and flavenoids. Enjoy the fruits of summer while they
are reasonably priced.
One of my favorite summer activities is flower gardening while my husband is
vegetable gardening. It's wonderful to watch seedlings take roots that go deep into
the fertile soil and grow into healthy and mature plants. But there is something
gardeners must guard against, and that is never to let the weeds outgrow the plants. It's
amazing how much weeds continue to grow. There is constant pulling of
weeds. I've seen that some weeds have pretty green leaves with tiny lovely
flowers and it's a shame to pull them up. But then I realize that these weeds
will choke out what we planted.
Looking at my garden, I think how careful we should be to nurture the good
that is planted in us by the Word of God. We must get rid of unwanted weeds
of bitterness, jealousy, hostility, malice, indifference, gossip, etc. because all
these weeds will hinder the growth and maturing of the fruits of the Holy Spirit
in us. (Gal. 5:22-23) We want to mature and bear much fruit at all times. Our
faith has to be rooted deep so when the storms and turmoil come our way, we
will not be shaken and fall down.
Enjoy the delicious tastes, happy sounds and beautiful sights of summer. Try
to stay cool and continue to fellowship with one another. Have a happy and
safe summer!

Just one more newsletter for 2008. The next deadline in November 15. Send stories of Halloween, Rally Days, Plans for the holiday season and any
other news you wish to share.
It’s an important piece of the puzzle that we know what
we’re all up to. It gives us the opportunity to share ideas,
combine efforts, cheer and pray for each other as we all reach
out –one hand to God and one hand to the community and
work for the world’s transformation.
Take a moment to give a shout out about your local unit and share it with others so we
may all rejoice in the work done by the legion of God.
