2010 Historical Report Methodist Youth Services, Inc. has changed its name to MYSI Corporation
The Name change is in response to expanding its services to include senior services. There were NO other structural changes made to the organization. MYSI leadership continues to draw from its roots in the Methodist faith and the Wesleyan values that promote respect and compassion for others. MYSI remains a member of the United Methodist Association (UMA) a national association of United Methodist related health and welfare organizations. MYSI has received the Association’s EAGLE designation as an organization that meets the highest governance standards.
MYSI Christian Mission
MYSI without regards to gender, sexual orientation, religion or ethnicity will provide its services with the highest regards for the Methodist faith and Wesleyan values that promote respect and compassion for others.
Historically
Over forty years ago, MYSI was founded by a group of Methodist men, with the initial focus on providing shelter and community resources for homeless young adolescence who were released from a correctional institution with no or limited family resources. Today, forty-six years later we are proud to continue to embrace our service mission to assist youth, seniors and families to reach their true potentials.
Programmatically
MYSI serve young adults between the ages of 14 to 21 who are under the state’s care and families between the ages of birth to seniors who are non state affiliated. The services includes, but are not limited to: Shelter care, Residential, Crisis intervention Counseling, Group and family therapy, Emergency food pantry, Teen pregnancy prevention services, CEDA weatherization services, Independent living and Transitional educational life skills, Advocacy case management, Spiritual counseling, Educational field trips, Financial workshops and in 2010, In conjunct with the City of Chicago, MYSI begun participating in the Mayor Daley’s well-being task force to provide clinical therapy, in-home case management and referral services to all seniors residing in cook county. These services are provided throughout the City of Chicago and its bordering West and South Suburbs.
Fiscally
Investments, Church Organizations, and Government support makes up a significant portion of the agency budget. In-kind donations and individual support has helped over 200 families sustain during these tough economic challenges. MYSI is tentative to the fact that without the United Voices for Children and your support and prayers many of our community based services would not be possible. Personnel
MYSI employees 60 full & part -time personnel combined. Over 90% of its workforce is trained and certified by National Certification Training Institute (NCTI) which is dedicated to helping staff succeeds by focusing on dealing with difficult behaviors.
Church Relations
The many individuals, supporters, friends, churches and corporations are a vital part of MYSI and we always appreciate the support and prayers that they provide to us. Thanks to all for assisting us with continuing God’s work. Anchored by God’s love for all, we assist youth, seniors and families to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
